Physiotherapy in Norway
How to get treatment for injuries, back pain or sports problems while visiting Norway.
Two Ways to See a Physiotherapist
1. Private physiotherapy (recommended for visitors) — book directly, no referral needed. These are normal physio clinics ("fysioterapeut") where you pay the full private rate. Most have online booking and accept foreign cards.
2. Public physiotherapy — requires a referral from a Norwegian GP ("fastlege") and a Norwegian national identity number (personnummer). Subsidized co-pay is around NOK 200 per session, but as a visitor this route is usually not available to you.
Prices (Typical)
Typical prices as of 2025 — always check the clinic's own website.
- Private physiotherapy session: NOK 600–900 (Oslo tends to be at the top of the range)
- Chiropractor / naprapath: NOK 500–800
- Public physio (with referral & personnummer): co-pay about NOK 200
Many travel insurance policies reimburse private physiotherapy — keep your receipts.
